Past Packaging

The Hamre House at Pennington County Historical Society‘s Pioneer Village holds packaging design spanning decades. The very Modernist design on Our Family Jar Rings dates from 1939. The newest item is probably the Pizzaroma, which dates from not before 1964, and quite possibly later. Many designs, like the Barrington Hall Coffee, look quite old (quite possibly from well before the 1939 Our Family), but it’s often hard to tell whether the products themselves are as old as their graphic design.

  1. Andy,

I just wanted you to know that I gave you creative credit for the photo that you took of the tin of Shinola polish. I used it on my most recent blog post, “From Drive Time to Watch Time: Shinola Detroit.”

Thank you for making the image available. You have a wonderful eye.
